My Inspiration, My Mom

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”

Washinton Irving

Have you told your mom what she means to you today? or any day for that matter.

I hope so, I did.  Mom's spirit is remarkable, she has a positive attitude and she has love in her heart.  I don't think there are many other things we need in our personalities.  She is my inspiration!!!

Have I always seen those qualities in her?  LOL

Oh! I can remember being so embarrassed by her when I was a teenager.  I didn't want to go in stores with her because I was afraid she was going to take something back, argue about a price that was charged, or ask for something for her classroom for free.   I was so humiliated.

Funny thing is I do the same things.

I cried many tears because we didn't agree on the length of my skirts.  I felt like if I made them I ought to be able to hem them at the length I wanted.  I didn't win!

I felt like we had way too many chores around the house.  We all had chores when we came home from school and the girls took turns cooking dinner.  I didn't understand that mom was teaching full time and drove 30 miles to and from school.  Then took care of the family when she got home.

Also, those pinches in church didn't make my heart grow fonder at the time either.  But I'm sure I learned something from them.

Life is interesting in the way that we change our prospective in time.  All those experiences shaped my world.  I think I turned out pretty good and I know she is proud of me.

I'm not embarrassed by her anymore, in fact I am proud to tell everyone she is my mom.

Don and I went over and had lunch with mom today.  Her friend Nancy had called last night and wanted to celebrate Mother's Day with her, too.  She lost her mom a few years ago and has become very close to mom.

Kenna the lilies started opening up today and they are gorgeous.

On a training note:  I walked 4.25 miles today.
