Please God turn off the Wind and turn on the Rain!!

Starting on Sunday I have been on fire watch in Ruidoso and Oklahoma City.  Both places are extremely dry, hardly any moisture in the last couple of months, and extremely windy.

On Sunday, the White Fire in RUIDOSO started about 1:30 pm. It is still burning & smothering tonight.  They hope to have it out by Sunday. This is the burn area.

I found these pictures on the internet. This is what they are saying about the containment now.

Date of Origin    Sunday April 03rd, 2011 approx. 01:30 PM
Location              Ruidoso Downs, NM
Total Personnel    475
Size        10,341 acres
Percent Contained           75%
Estimated Containment Date       Saturday April 09th, 2011 approx. 12:00 AM
2 Helicopters; 16 Engines; 5 Dozers

5 homes lost plus numerous outbuildings

The size of this fire is 10 miles by 1 1/2 miles and could have been devastating to the town if the wind had been going west instead of east.  The rugged and rocky terrain has made it very difficult to fight. They did have 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain last night.

Fire restrictions have been posted and I'm sure by the time we get to Ruidoso in June the forest will be closed. We will be doing a rain dance with the Mescalero Apache Indians for the monsoon rains to come early.

Now for the OKLAHOMA fire watch.  We have had high winds, warm temperatures, & low humidity since Sunday & no rain to speak of in two months. The rural east side of OKC in the Spencer area they have had a fire going for a couple of days and numerous other smaller fires all over the state.  We have a huge land area just north of our subdivision that is grassy & hope no one thanks it would be fun to watch it burn.  EXTREME FIRE DANGER THROUGH SUNDAY!
