Busy, Busy and Busier

I have been very busy the past week.  The winds have been extremely high and I have a good case of sinuses and now for the second day, laryngitis.  I haven't felt bad but I sound really bad.

Ricki had this crude last week and I would say she gave it to me but I didn't see her until after I was getting sick.  So guess I can't blame it on her.  She came down with it when she went back to KS to work on their house after a big hail storm damaged their house (roof, fence, screens, gutters and siding).

I wanted to show you a picture of my little girl that keeps me company in my computer room in the evening.  I don't bother her too much.

I think I'll give you an update of what has been going on at my house for the last week.

Today(Wed)
I skipped working out this morning to go and get a pedicure & manicure.  Much needed.
Then had an appointment to get my hair colored and cut.  Much needed.
Second day of my laryngitis. Not needed.
Watching the OKC Thunder basketball team win their second game in the playoffs. Much needed

Tuesday
Played pickleball for 3 hours.  Two guys came home from winter in AZ.  Glad to have more players to play now.
Went to Epworth to cook for the Assisted Living with Ricki.  We made Choc covered strawberries, chicken salad sandwiches, deviled eggs, strawberry/lemonade slushies, decorated Easter cookies & baked mini cherry turnovers.  We had a good time cooking with each other.  I couldn't talk because this was my first day with laryngitis.
Aunt Pauline (in Calif) had another surgery for her breast cancer. This was her second one in a little over a week.  They didn't feel like they took out enough last week. Hope she is feeling OK.
We watched the movie "Kings Speech". Ricki, John and Chris came over to watch it. Very Very good!!

Monday
Co-Hostess for my Home Economic club meeting at our neighborhood clubhouse.  Decorated and setup for about 30 people in the evening.  Glad that's over for another year.

Sunday
Can't think of anything major I did today.  Probably spent most of the time on the computer. Oh yea I made a cake for the meeting on Monday and did some grocery shopping. Didn't make it over to see mother.

Saturday
Ricki got us all tickets to go to the OU/OSU Bedlam game at the Redhawk stadium in Bricktown.  We went down about 5:00 and walked around the canal and then headed to the game.  They were all decked out in their OSU shirts.
Then we headed to the stadium
Who is counting but OU did beat them 7 to 6.  This wasn't the outcome that Chris wanted but he took it pretty good. The stadium was full by the time the game started. We sat in the OSU section.

Friday
Ricki and John invited Mom, Don, me and his parents over to Epworth to have dinner and then go to a special program that featured Larry Derryberry as "Mr. Oklahoma".

Here is Ricki, John, Harry Birdwell (Epworth fundraiser) and Christopher
This is John's parents Judy and Tom and Tom's sister that lives at Epworth.
Larry is a prominent attorney in Oklahoma City, was a State Representative & ran an unsuccessful bid for governor several years ago. He grew up in SW Oklahoma in the Humphreys and Southside area.  Dad and Mom knew their family at that time.  The kids were Mac and Kenna's age group and were in 4H together.  Mac worked as a page for him when he was in the House of  Representatives.

Anyway he did a program about the beginning of Oklahoma.  Very good enjoyed it alot.

Queen of Epworth Villas
Introduction for the program and Mr. Oklahoma
Question and Answer session with Larry Derryberry
 Mom and Larry reminisce
Mom had a great time!!

Thursday
Went with my neighbors downtown to the Planning Commission to protest a development of apartments across the street. We rented a bus and took about fifty five neighbors.

The trip was a success and the building permit was denied. Thank you neighbors!!

Wednesday
Dinner at Upper Crust with my Grant teacher friends.  We are planning a trip to New Braunfels in June.  This is our 60th birthday trip.  Some are older than others.  I'm not 60 yet

That is as far back as I can remember. But I know it has been busy and now it is time to start packing again. We are heading to Vegas on Friday.  More pictures to come!!!

Please God turn off the Wind and turn on the Rain!!

Starting on Sunday I have been on fire watch in Ruidoso and Oklahoma City.  Both places are extremely dry, hardly any moisture in the last couple of months, and extremely windy.

On Sunday, the White Fire in RUIDOSO started about 1:30 pm. It is still burning & smothering tonight.  They hope to have it out by Sunday. This is the burn area.

I found these pictures on the internet. This is what they are saying about the containment now.

Date of Origin    Sunday April 03rd, 2011 approx. 01:30 PM
Location              Ruidoso Downs, NM
Total Personnel    475
Size        10,341 acres
Percent Contained           75%
Estimated Containment Date       Saturday April 09th, 2011 approx. 12:00 AM
2 Helicopters; 16 Engines; 5 Dozers

5 homes lost plus numerous outbuildings

The size of this fire is 10 miles by 1 1/2 miles and could have been devastating to the town if the wind had been going west instead of east.  The rugged and rocky terrain has made it very difficult to fight. They did have 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain last night.

Fire restrictions have been posted and I'm sure by the time we get to Ruidoso in June the forest will be closed. We will be doing a rain dance with the Mescalero Apache Indians for the monsoon rains to come early.

Now for the OKLAHOMA fire watch.  We have had high winds, warm temperatures, & low humidity since Sunday & no rain to speak of in two months. The rural east side of OKC in the Spencer area they have had a fire going for a couple of days and numerous other smaller fires all over the state.  We have a huge land area just north of our subdivision that is grassy & hope no one thanks it would be fun to watch it burn.  EXTREME FIRE DANGER THROUGH SUNDAY!
