Busy October (things I missed telling you about)

We came home to beautiful weather and skies. It was nice to miss the hottest weather on record in Oklahoma during the summer.

Mom went back home to her apartment after being in skilled nursing for two months for her broken hip. She is very happy to be home but doesn’t have the energy she had before.  She has to use the walker everywhere she goes and has had home health nurses coming in for physical therapy, bathing and occupational therapy.  They will be coming for another week and a half.

She is very emotional about everything & doesn’t even have the desire to get on the computer. Hopefully she will bounce back in a few weeks.

I got a haircut and color.  Needed it badly!! Seems to be getting kind of thin.

I went with the Harneds to the OSU vs Kansas game in Stillwater.  I had to borrow a shirt from Ricki so I wouldn’t look out of place & they wouldn’t be embarrassed by me. We had a great time and the Cowboys won BIG!!!  It was hot, it rained, we saw Mac & Mary, & Chris took his trainer with him.

Sharon Allen came to visit us.  She lives in Ruidoso during the summer and in McKinney, TX during the winter.  She came to play with me in the Pickleball Senior Olympics.  We went to the Opening Ceremonies Dinner at the Okla. History Center.

Vicky, Sharon and Don at Gala Opening for OKC Games.

These are some other members of the OKC Pickleball Club

Along with Sharon came Sugar(maltase) and Gracie(yorkie). They are sooo cute and Abby loved playing with them most of the time.  She was pretty bored when they left.

Sharon is my walking partner in Ruidoso so we took a walk around Hefner lake while she was here.

Then we went to the National Bombing Memorial & Brick Town for some Mexican Food.

Then we headed to the Pickleball Tournament. We played from 9 – 3:30.  Starting with 3 singles matches, then two women’s doubles matches, and then 2 mixed doubles matches.  I won 3 gold medals and Don won 3 gold medals.  Pretty Good!!  Our Pickleball club had 10 play and we took home 21 medals.

We had our first Pickleball social at our Clubhouse.  We have about twenty members now and we had 24 show up.  It was a pot luck style and then we told stories about ourselves to get to know each other.  We have several comedians in the group.

The Grant Girls got together at Ann’s house for Soup and Birthday Cake. Vicky Gilliland joined us (far left). When she left Grant and I took her job.  IMG_4799IMG_4800

Then finishing off the month our neighborhood had their annual Halloween party. This year it was a 50’s party & fifty five attended.  Many dressed up, but Don and I didn’t. I was the MC and the bingo caller.  BBQ from Earl’s was delicious.

Christopher is Playing Football

Why do boys play football?

Well, I think you have to be a boy to know the real answer to that question.

As an aunt, I am going to tell you why I think they do. They like to hit people, act tough & get dirty!!

ch1

It doesn’t matter why Chris is playing football I’m just glad he is. I’m glad I get to go and watch him, I’m glad he likes it, I’m glad he gets to play.

Chris was able to change schools this year and it has made a world of difference in him. He is going to Crossings Christian School. He is the only Junior boy with 4 girls. He likes school, he is involved, he is an upper classman, he is somebody!! Unlike how he felt last year. It is so good to see him happy.

I hope everyone that reads this knows that this is how I see it. It may be completely different in his eyes but I think I can read him pretty good.

He has lost 80 lbs, started working out with a trainer last spring, started taking guitar lesson, & has a girlfriend & lots of friends at school. It has been fun for me to see his confidence grow.

Chris football

I have gone to two football games so far. These pictures were taken at the first game with Casady a much larger school than CCS. Chris’ team plays JV this year and will play Varsity next year.

He sprain his ankle before the first game but let it rest for a week or so and then was back at it. He always plays on special teams & he played center at the game against Casady and played defense this last game.

Chris is #75 in these pictures.

He is waiting for his game and supporting the middle school players in their game. IMG_4723

Two weeks ago in a game with only 2 minutes left he sprain the ankle again. It was very bad and has been on crutches for two weeks. He will miss the rest of the season.

I’m really proud of you Chris and keep it up. Get involved and have some pride in your school!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhh by the way, Chris. When can I expect a phone call from you telling me you took that driver’s license test. I’m waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
