We bought our cabin in Ruidoso 14 years ago this month. All this time I have wanted a green metal roof on it. Too much money when nothing has been wrong with the brown asphalt shingles.
This summer a neighbor was reroofing his house and Don asked the roofer to come and estimate what a roof would cost. I was shocked. He came over looked at it and suggested to just replace the shingles. Cost less! Don jumped at his suggestion because of course it was cheaper. I was devastated and mad at the roofer. Didn't talk about it much because I didn't want the shingles. The roofer suggested that we have the insurance adjuster come and see if we could get insurance money on replacing. Insurance adjuster came and pretty much totaled the roof and gave us $4100 –500 deductible. Great news we never expected that much. She suggested we have several other roofers bid on it.
Don finally agreed on the green metal roof. Everyone that I talked to agreed with me about the metal vs shingles. We chose a roofer and they finished it today. It looks great!!! Don't you think? I love it.
Some of the rocks on the chimney are falling off and we decided to have those reapplied. The mason suggested we take the rocks off and have it stuccoed . He said that we would continually have the problem with rocks falling off and this would be maintenance free. We had never thought about it but decided to to stucco. I chose a darker brown with a little red to match the logs on the house. I think it will look OK. I really can't even imagine what it will look like. Hope it looks ok. The white rocks look a little out of place now on the chimney. He will start on that next week. Pictures to come later.
Don's quote of the night " Well one more thing you won't have to have done when I'm gone". This was one of my points in the discussions that we had on the roof.
I have been trying to get my 90 yrs old neighbor(Thena Gandy) to have a garage sale and get rid of a lot of her stuff for the past 4 or 5 yrs. This summer when we came she said OK.
Since Monday I have been collecting and organizing all her stuff. A HUGE job. Today was the day and I still wasn't ready but had some awesome help from Paula, Raymond, Don and Sharon. Thanks team. It was mostly men's clothing, tons of tools and lots of misc. stuff. Opened at 7 and close at 3 when the rain started. We made about $550. Great day but still have tons of stuff & a lot of it needs to go to the trash. Tomorrow cheaper and free.
Day of the sale I was tired and cranky but it was easier than the organizing. I love the selling and interacting with the customers.
Tomorrow is the last day and the left overs are trashed and donated. Glad that will be over!
Love the roof!!!! Perfect.
