I felt two earthquakes yesterday, Saturday November 5, 2011. My first!
Earthquake #1: 2:15 am, I woke up and heard something rattling. I thought the wind was blowing really hard & moving the house or the heater had come on. I realized it was a metal wall hanging above the bed, it was rattling. I put my hand on it and it stopped. I could tell Don was awake too and I said it was the picture that was rattling and we both went back to sleep. I wasn’t even worried about it. Then the next morning Don came into the bedroom and said did you feel the bed rock last night. I said oh sure and then I remembered the rattling. He said a 4.7 earthquake had occurred near Prague. I was really surprised & shocked. It was all over the news stations all day.
The last few years we have heard about a lot of quakes around the Jones & Chandler areas. They were very small ones. I had never felt any of them.
In 1955 they had a record of a quake in El Reno that was a 5.2. We missed a new record.
Earthquake #2: Saturday night I went to bed early. I wanted to watch the OSU football game in bed. I watched a while but I slept thru most of it until the end. Very exciting game and very close. They won 52-45 it wasn’t decided until the last second, literally.
After it was over Don came into the bedroom and was getting ready for bed. I was still awake watching the news. Then the picture started rattling again and I said Don!! it is an earthquake again. It was 10:52. I had enough time to figure out what it was, get out of bed and walked over to Don all the time hollering & watching the clock to see how long it was going to last. Everything was moving. Abby was lying on the bed and she jumped up and ran under the bed. It lasted I think for over a minute. Quite exciting and hard to go back to sleep. Don't know what is happening. This one was a 5.7 pretty big around here. Something new to talk about. We had no damage at our house.
Yes we get it all in OKLA, tornadoes, floods, drought, blizzards, hurricane remnants, ice storms, humidity, heat, fires, & wind. May have to check on earthquake insurance now.
Do we have any volcanoes in Oklahoma?
